Grzegorz Bojanek, also known as Eta Carinae, is an xclnt electro-acoustic musician from Poland. For a Junto remix project, he sampled guitar from my track Call Pop (both original versions below), and created a wonderfully dreamy track called One Hot Day, which appears on his latest release Constraints, a collection of tracks originally composed for the Disquiet.com…

STORY:
I’m in Detroit. Or what I think is Detroit. Wandering around in the rain. I’m in town to play a show and I can’t sleep. Neon lights abandoned Main Street. Restaurants and artist studios nestled between broken glass windows and crumbling bricks.…

chime. rinse. repeat. [disquiet0072-domesticscore]
PROCESS:
Recorded my doorbell and washing machine. Since the washing machine is smack in the middle of our apartment’s hallway, there is no escaping its swishing and whirring while it runs. It’s not necessarily an “intrusion,” because I feel luckier than lucky to have a washer and dryer in my apartment, but it is loud and there can be no vocal tracking in my home studio when there’s a load of wash to do.…

Arc Of Visibility (Sense The Wind trailer score) [disquiet0071-windmusic]
PROCESS:
Arc of Visibility: The portion of the horizon over which a lighted aid to navigation is visible from seaward.
Sense The Wind is an inspired project about people who find independence, affirmation and freedom by taking risks and abandoning notions of limitation. As such, my goal this week became to create a flat-out positive one-minute piece of music that moved in and out of the action of the film’s trailer.…

riding waves [disquiet0066-nonofi]
PROCESS:
@nofi was one of my first followers on SoundCloud from the Junto (I started with #0004). Over the last year, I admired and absorbed a lot of his work and we shared laughs a few times on Twitter. I feel lucky to have had even the most cursory electronic interaction with him.…

02:50 night sky dead letter office [disquiet0065-pianoverlay]
PROCESS:
Start point: 02:50
Duration: 02:40
Added drums and guitar as the two new elements.
All the talk of space in the original track inspired me to break out the ebow for the 1st time in a while.
To get more interstellar, I applied plate reverb, reverse delay and phaser to guitars at different points.…

As space travel is humanity’s waking dream, it was all the more fitting that the die rolled an instagram filter borne of a dream traveler…

little filters / wrong impressions [disquiet0057-phonemetransmit]
PROCESS:
Samples stretched, pitch preserved, with noise, harmonic and/or binaural processing. These went into the DAW and were combined with the original recording snippets in various ways. Further effects included delay, resonance, vibrato, distortion, EQ and amplitude modulation.
12 words. 12 tracks. Three 48-second parts.
Anger | Vulnerability | Elation
Title taken from “Words” by Missing Persons:

It’s a sorry state I say to myself…”

Retrospective Reflector [Disquiet0051-audiojournal]
PROCESS:
This is my 28th submission to the Junto. This is a mix of my work for the Junto and singles and demos I’ve released (and one not) this year. Thank you to everyone in the group for your generosity, friendship and acceptance. And a special Thank You! to Mark Weidenbaum of http://disquiet.com…

Cassette Kirtan [disquiet0049-deckduet]
PROCESS:
Contact mic’ed a microcassette recorder (my only current working tape deck). Measured 86.48 BPM using the manual tempo tap on a Line6 POD-XT. Meditated over the lulling beat with a guitar. Pickups were thrown out-of-phase and then the guitar signal was sent through delay, auto-swell and phaser. There’s also a Paulstretched A-chord strum (24x) behind the track.…

Kinda off my beaten path, so have a laugh with me on it. Did not use a guitar this time (honoring a promise to @all-n4tural).
PROCESS:
Sentence 1 (from Tom Sawyer):
“I dare you to step over that and I’ll lick you ’til you can’t stand up.”

crystalline sky grace [disquiet0044-sandy2012]
Still a bit shellshocked here in Brooklyn, NYC. While wrestling with a few other concepts in the last couple days, Amazing Grace kept floating in the air. I believe in forces greater than myself, but I am not religious so much as spiritual. That is, I don’t believe these forces around us act with intention.…

kamikuma: remixes of The Know It Alls
kamikuma (natalia kamia), one my fav soundclouders, hails from Gothenburg, Sweden. “anything can be translated” says her profile, but let the mystery be for while and just absorb her work. she creates space within and around her sounds, which is a high calling, and results often in tracks that are as exhilarating as they can be challenging.…

AustinTown (inst.) [disquiet0042-naivemelody]
PROCESS:
The instrument I have played for the longest time is a 1965 Framus 5/59-525 Sorella thinline. My dad bought it for $12 at a garage sale in 1982 and told me, “Make this sound like you mean it and we’ll see about getting you a nicer guitar.” Despite her given name, I call her Stella (though she’s not to be confused with Framus’s same-era Stella archtop line).…

Arc Welded [disquiet0040-kirschnerplus1]
PROCESS:
Turned Kirschner and Popoff into my Crazy Horse and dialed up a tribute to Neil Young’s noise record Arc, the final side of the Arc/Weld live album of his 1991 Ragged Glory tour. Snipped about 2 1/2 mins of the duet, then layered a looped, distorted guitar over it. Couldn’t get the range on the fretboard I wanted in one take, so there are 2 takes twisted into this wreckage (so it’s, well, almost a live performance :^D).…
