Lee’s liner notes:

When this project was launched, I emailed my online buddy Westy Reflector @thereflectors to see if he’d be up for a collaboration and I was thrilled he agreed. I’ve wanted to do a big huge ambient landscape with his glorious guitar tracks and this seemed like a perfect opportunity.

truth is a lonely place [disquiet0138-videosonicvoid]

PROJECT
Compose a 2.5-minute soundtrack to complement the silent video “Untitled #8, 2004″ by the artist Josh Azzarella. The video is intended by the artist as a “Never Ending Loop,” as is this audio accompaniment.

she still echoes: short film end credits

Conversaciones (Conversations) from Jaume R. Lloret on Vimeo.

A snippet of my track she still echoes (like a summer) runs over the closing credits of a meditative short film called “Conversations,” directed by Jaume R. Lloret, which competed in Spain’s Jameson Notodo Film Festival. Also was selected for the Radio City Festival in the section “Valenciana Shorts” and a finalist in the Mostra de Cinema Jove of Elche.…

The Fourth Of IX [Disquiet0134-MusicFromChoreography]

My Disquiet Junto contribution to soundtrack 03:00-03:59 of the film [IX] by Cori Marquis.

PROCESS
Pulled out aces through nines from a deck of cards.
Shuffled. Cut twice. Drew the top card.
4 of hearts.
So, fourth minute of nine (03:00 – 03:59).

At ~01:47 in the original 9 minute film, the dancers tapped their shoulders with their fists for a couple seconds.…

Transient [Drawing] Lines

Transient Lines (bandcamp | freemusicarchive) – the entire record – soundtracks artist Eric M Smith‘s drawing and painting of a griffin in real time. Bonus sound artifact: the environmental sounds of Smith’s pen and ink-on-paper strokes are left underneath the music, which I always <3. Bonus trivia: The Higgins Ink original factory and the mansion behind it in which the Higgins family lived are 50 yards down the block and across the street from my home in Brooklyn. The factory was converted into apartments in the 70s and the mansion now houses a music school. Full circles, everywhere.

intransitive disapperance [disquiet0108-freebassel]

PROCESS
Connected to this assignment, and wanted to do some small part to keep Bassel’s cause and case out front. I’m not a foley artist and field recording is not my game, though, so consider this less a soundscape than a track that might run over closing credits.

Married some royalty-free congas, tambourines and trap kit loops on an Acid timeline.…

tweed square: caffeineix

I am an unabashed and long-time coffee enthusiast, so this use of Tweed Square [disquiet0020] to tell the story of one day in a Phoenix, Arizona, coffee shop, made my morning. “Caffeine – ix,” get it? :^D

Words Of Release Ride The Planet

My track Words Of Release soundtracks an extreme ride down Uganda’s White Nile River. Awesome that a song about peace makes such sense against raging waters. Wonderful cinematography. My track starts approximately 01:50.

Uganda’s politics around self-expression and gender are not aligned with mine (understatement), but you rarely have control over where your music is placed (just ask Chrissy Hynde about Rush Limbaugh’s daily use of My City Was Gone).…

Arc Of Visibility (Sense The Wind trailer score) [disquiet0071-windmusic]

PROCESS:

Arc of Visibility: The portion of the horizon over which a lighted aid to navigation is visible from seaward.

Sense The Wind is an inspired project about people who find independence, affirmation and freedom by taking risks and abandoning notions of limitation. As such, my goal this week became to create a flat-out positive one-minute piece of music that moved in and out of the action of the film’s trailer.…

waterfall love [disquiet0017-transition]

My contribution to the 17th week of the disquiet.com junto. The challenge was to take 30 seconds of a field recording, and slowly and seamlessly transition it into 1 of 2 given pre-existing tracks. Sounds could be added and the source tracks manipulated in any way. The first five seconds of the field recording and the last 5 seconds of the pre-existing track, however, were to be left untouched, aside from fading in and out.…
